A cookie is a small file kept by your browser on a site’s behalf. It cannot run, and it cannot read anything else on your machine. This page lists the ones Meowlore relies on and why each exists.
Updates
Cookies come and go as services change, and this page follows them. It is updated when something actually changes, not periodically for appearance, and the date above says when.
The list
- Strictly needed. Without these the page will not load properly, stay secure, or remember that you already answered the cookie prompt.
- Audience statistics. Google Analytics, counted in bulk: which pages hold attention and where readers come from. Nothing that names you.
- Advertising. Cookies set by Google AdSense decide which ads appear and stop the same one following you around.
How long this is kept
Duration is not uniform. What the site needs to work is discarded on exit; what measures and advertises stays until it expires or you delete it.
Named cookies
- _ga, _gid – Google Analytics. Distinguish one browser from another so visits are not double-counted.
- __gads, __gpi – Google AdSense. Ad selection and frequency capping.
- wordpress_test_cookie, wp-settings-* – WordPress. Check that cookies work, and remember display preferences.
- comment_author_* – set only if you leave a comment, so the form remembers your name next time.
What none of these do: they do not read files on your device, they do not follow you into other applications, and they are not sold to anyone. There is no cookie here whose purpose is to identify you by name.
Do Not Track
We make no claim about Do Not Track: the signal has never been standardised into an obligation. What works is refusing the cookies, by the means listed above.
Consent
The prompt you see on a first visit is how consent is gathered for the cookies that need it. Your decision is kept in your own browser, not in an account, which is why clearing your browser brings the prompt back.
Content from elsewhere
Embedded material from third parties can bring its own cookies with it. We cannot enumerate them here because they belong to the provider and change without reference to us.
Where to opt out
- To stop personalised ads everywhere, not just here: adssettings.google.com.
- To stop Google Analytics from counting you anywhere: the opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- To handle it locally: your browser’s privacy settings block or delete cookies, per site or across the board.
How to say no
Your browser can delete any of this at any moment, without asking us. Keep the technical cookies if you want pages to behave; the others are optional.
